Tropes I really like:
• found families
• hurt/comfort with emphasis on the comfort
• partnership
• casefic
• loyalty kink
• fluff
Tropes I'd rather not read:
• animal death/abuse
• incest
• character death
• A/B/O
• modern AUs (if canon is fantasy/historical)
• noncon/dubcon
I'm totally on board with PWP, and fine with any sex stuff up to mild bondage; I'm not really into hardcore BDSM or kink. Also, if the canon requested involves one of my DNWs, it's totally fine if that pops up in the story, but I'd prefer that new stuff not be introduced. (i.e. there's obviously sexual violence baked into Alias Grace as a narrative, but please don't introduce NEW sexual violence.)
Alias Grace (TV)
Grace Marks, Mary Whitney
So I actually first engaged with this canon when I read the book ten years ago, and the ending made me so mad ("what do you MEAN we don't get any clarification of what really happened??") that I nearly threw the book across the room. However, with time and reflection, I think I appreciate the ambiguity a lot more, especially because it means I can believe that the actual ending is: MURDEROUS REVOLUTIONARY GHOST GIRLFRIENDS.
Or if that's not your bag, consider:
• if Mary really is haunting Grace and Grace isn't aware, what's her perspective of the whole thing? How does Mary feel about that, given that she's basically using (and let's be honest, raping) Grace for her own ends?
• if Mary's haunting Grace and Grace does know what's going on, what's her perspective? How much of a willing participant is she in the murders? What kind of interactions does she have with Mary as a ghost in her head?
• what about what went on between Mary and Grace back when they were both alive? What was their friendship like? What did they think of each other?
Femslash VERY much encouraged for this pairing. (For all the pairings, let's be real.)
The Exorcist (TV)
Verity Kim, Kat Rance
One of the persistent themes in this show that was the intersection between faith and queerness - we had Marcus (fervent believer) and then Kat (who seemed kind of meh about the whole thing) and Verity (who was very much anti-religion, understandably so.) I'd love to see either of these characters' perspectives of what went on in their respective families during the exorcisms - or what would happen if they met and compared notes! (Again, femslash encouraged. Can I just issue a blanket "femslash encouraged" note and call it done?)
Rock 'n' Roll High School
Riff Randall, Kate Rambeau
This movie is fucking WEIRD, and I love it. As a result, you can basically take any tone you want with fic - you could even write darkfic, if you want! (I mean, I'd prefer you didn't, but theoretically you COULD.) Basically I'd just really love Riff/Kate fic, and you can be as realistic (friends-to-lovers in high school/college) or surreal (teen anarchists destroy their school with the power of rock music!) as you want.
The Magicians (TV)
Kady Orloff-Diaz, Julia Wicker
I love how Kady and Julia's relationship developed, how they have this bond that the others just don't because both of them had to get by outside of Brakebills. I loved how supportive Kady was of Julia during and after the abortion arc, how endeared Julia seems to be by Kady's propensity for punching, how they always seem to come back to each other even after a huge argument or betrayal. That said, if you'd rather stick with a platonic relationship for the fic, that's fine as well - I just want to read about them together.
