Tropes I really like:
- found families
- hurt/comfort with emphasis on the comfort
- partnership
- casefic
- loyalty kink
- fluff
Tropes I'd rather not read:
- animal death/abuse
- incest
- character death
- A/B/O
- modern AUs (if canon is fantasy/historical)
- noncon/dubcon
I'm totally on board with PWP, and fine with any sex stuff up to mild bondage; I'm not really into hardcore BDSM or kink.
Lynes and Mathey Series - Amy Griswold & Melissa Scott Relationship: Julian Lynes/Ned Mathey
As someone who grew up on urban fantasy and Sherlock Holmes and is really into the history of gay culture in the Victorian era, these books were basically calibrated to tickle my id, and I'd honestly be happy with any expansion on Ned and Julian's canon relationship. Casefic, smut, hurt/comfort, schmoop - it's all good.
Lost Boys (Movies) Relationship: Michael Emerson/David (Lost Boys)/Star (Lost Boys) Relationship: Michael Emerson/David (Lost Boys)
Note: as indicated, I'm down with either Michael/David or Michael/David/Star, but one hard preference I have is that Star not get bashed or killed off or otherwise maligned. I'm really fond of her! It's not the poor girl's fault that she landed in the middle of a homoerotic vampire battle.
Anyway, I came relatively late to this movie, but I love how earnestly over-the-top and fun it is - this is a movie that has no shame about inserting an oiled-up, shirtless saxophone player for no reason, or enough crossfades to make any 80s music video director blush, or characters yelling "It's too late! My blood is in you!" at each other. So feel free to lean into that. Alternately, you could get more serious/introspective with it and look at what life is really like as a Lost Boy (or Lost Boy half-vampire adjacent) when they're not posing and preening and jumping off railway bridges to show how cool they are. OR you could write about the weird, messy, tangled dynamic that is these three, and how that works beyond the initial burst of violence and sex and jealousy. The sky's the limit!
(also, an all-girl AU of this movie is something I will ALWAYS be into.)
Girls Made of Snow And Glass - Melissa Bashardoust Relationship: Lynet (Girls Made of Snow and Glass)/Mina (Girls Made of Snow and Glass)
So I finished this book (having cried copiously while reading it) and thought "that was a really beautiful, touching mother/daughter relationship that cleverly subverts the Snow White/Evil Queen dynamic that exists in popular culture . . . but also I really want them to kiss." (No offence Nadia, but you're kind of boring.) Maybe a story about Lynet growing up and realizing that she has a crush on her sort-of stepmother? Or them as co-queens after the end of the book?
Rock 'n' Roll High School Relationship: Riff Randell/Kate Rambeau
Did I throw this one in just to see if anyone else had obscure enough tastes to take me up on it? Yes, yes I did. But honestly, I do really ship these two - they seem so close (in an emotional and
personal space sense) and if you can figure out a way to write about this weird, weird canon, more power to you. Baby rock and roll lesbians!
The Exorcist (TV) Relationship: Verity Kim & Harper Graham
If I had one complaint about season two of this show, it's that it should have been twenty episodes longer just so that we could spend more time with the Kim family. I loved what we saw of Harper and Verity's dynamic - how Verity was initially against having another sibling but immediately moved into big sister mode once Harper arrived, and how Harper started to emerge from her shell once she was at the Kims. You could write a story about their time together while Andy was still alive (or an AU where he never died! It's fine, they got rid of the demon and he and Rose are living happily together with their brood of children and nothing bad ever happened again) or about what happens after, how they deal with this new upheaval in their lives.
The Magicians (TV)Fen, Eliot Waugh, Margo Hanson, Kady Orloff-Diaz, Julia Wicker
First, I will be totally honest and say that I haven't finished season three yet - I have three episodes left. BUT I will undoubtedly have finished by the time the collection goes live, so don't worry about spoilers. If anything in the letter makes you squint and go "uh?" just know that it's because I haven't consumed all of canon yet.
For Fen, Eliot, and Margo: I'd really be interested in a story about what day-to-day life in the palace looks like when they're not dealing with a fairy coup, or the entire castle being turned into rats, or an invading country demanding to marry one of Fillory's rulers. I'm especially interested in Fen - when she was introduced, I thought she'd just be a side presence who didn't have much to do, so you can imagine my delight when she got to be a full-fledged character with her own storylines! I'd be totally into a fic about Just Another Day In Fillory and the various minor problems they have to deal with, or with how the three of them work as a unit. Not exactly a family/romantic unit (unless you're into that, which, hey, I'm certainly not objecting) but three people who have to live and work together in the best interests of their country.
For Kady and Julia: hooooooly CRAP do I ship this. I love how their relationship developed, how they have this bond that the others just don't because both of them had to get by outside of Brakebills. I loved how supportive Kady was of Julia during and after the abortion arc, how endeared Julia seems to be by Kady's propensity for punching, how they always seem to come back to each other even after a huge argument or betrayal. That said, if you'd rather stick with a platonic relationship for the fic, that's fine as well - I just want to read about them together.
